Blessingway
What Is A Blessingway?
A blessingway is all about nurturing and connecting heart to heart with the mother. Filling her cup so it overflows with love and confidence as she awaits the impending birth of her baby. She’s so much more than a vessel to bring a baby into this world. She’s a woman becoming a mother.
My Bessingway 2021
A woman who is nourished, nurtured and given lots of love has more love to give in return, to her baby, her loved ones, and the world as a whole. There’s nothing like a circle of loving women to get that delicious hormone, oxytocin, (the hormone of labor, but also love and bonding) flowing!
I Can help you facilitate and hole space for the blessing way of your dreams, I will hold the circle, in your home or other trusted location and we will sit together you and your chosen group, and create a magic space for you to let go, relax, laugh, sing and enjoy. A blessing – way is a co collaboration, so we will meet and talk through what you are wanting from your time in circle. The beauty of a blessing – way is that they are all unique and magical in their own ways.
Below is a list of Ceremony ideas that work so beautifully and are ever so nourishing for every person in the circle.
Cord Ceremony
Binding everyone’s wrists with a single cord of red wool or some other yarn. Everyone then keeps the string around their wrists until they hear that birth is underway – then they all cut the cord as a symbol of unity. Plus the cord is a nice way to remind others to be thinking of the prospective mother.
Flowers and/or Henna
A crown of flowers made for the mother always makes her feel special, and henna [body art, typically on the belly and/or hands] (if you can get someone who does it) is always good fun for the mother and other guests. There are loads of traditions associated with “mother” henna.
Singing
Singing is such a powerful act of self-expression, it fills the body and heart with joy and love! to sing in a circle with your chosen family is as ancient as the moon, a way of deeply connecting to ourselves, each other, and our ancestors. It’s also a powerful tool to use during labor; to sing, hum, groan, make noise, express, and be free with yourself and your voice, will help raise your oxytocin levels, the hormone we need to birth our babies
Massage
Always bliss for a pregnant mama. Head, shoulder, hand, and foot massage (maybe not hand if she’s getting henna done!) needs no explanation. All these things are done to make the mother feel nurtured, protected, surrounded by love, and supported
Something else to mention that isn’t so much a mother blessing tradition, but is a popular idea to incorporate is creating a meal train for weeks after the birth, to help the family!
